Recent and Current Projects

Education City, Doha, Qatar
Providing consultancy services for Industrial Controls for the utilities, Building Automation Systems, Fire Alarm, Security, HV SCADA and a 1,000,000 point SCADA system to monitor all site wide facilities. Education City, located in the Middle East, is a world class multi university education project for grades one up to the PHD level.
March 2010 to present.

Vancouver Island Health Authority
Victoria General Hospital Laundry- 2009 to Present. Upgrading the PLC control system (15 PLCs) using Allen Bradley SLC 515s, 503s, Micrologix and Rockwell Factory Talk with Historian server all on an ethernet network.

Waste Water Treatment Plant
Dockside Green is the largest development in Victoria and is the first Platinum LEEDS project in Canada. The development has its own closed loop waste water treatment plant where the effluent is recycled into use in the resident’s toilets, the first WWTP in Victoria. MPC won the contract to design and build the control system, SCADA and instrumentation for this plant and used the GE Rx3i PLC.
The project started in November 2006, completed July 2008.

Landfill Gas Flare and Landfill Gas Engine Generators
The first phase of this project was the design and build of the control system for the flare and was completed in 2004. Cost was $70,000. The second phase was to upgrade the existing system and to accommodate dual blowers and two landfill gas powered electrical generators that are connected to the BC Hydro grid. This system uses Clearscada with E series RTU and was recently completed in June 2010.

Private Water Utility
EPCOR, Edmonton – designed and installed the SCADA upgrade for the water system for the City of Whiterock. The RTUs are ScadaPack and the HMI is iFix – Intellution.

Private Industry
Mizkan/Hydroxyl, Tennesee – Designed and built the controls system for a waste water treatment plant that treats the effluent from an industrial food plant.
Filterbox, Calgary – Designed and built control systems for several skid mounted waste water treatment plants for the remote camps in the oil and gas industry.

Federal Government
MPC acted as sub consultant under Worley Parsons and designed the new control system for a waste water treatment plant for the prison at William Head. 2009.

Projects completed for the Capital Regional District (CRD)
MPC has designed and built the MCC, ATS, controls and instrumentation for two new booster pump stations for the CRD. Includes VFDs for the domestic pumps and 200hp fire pumps. These systems connect to the SCADA system and use Moscad RTUs.

Designed and built a seismic shutdown system to detect earthquakes and prevent the draining of a reservoir. The system is connected to the SCADA system for alarming and recording of data.  This was a design and build project.

Designed and built a Chlorine Shutdown System for the chlorination system at the Japan Gulch Treatment Plant. When a chlorine leak is detected the system will close valves on the chlorine containers. The shutdown system is controlled through the SCADA system (SCADApack RTU) for alarming and recording purposes. This was a design and build project.

MPC has engineered the connection of several pump stations to the CRD’s SCADA system for the Town of Sidney and the District of Central Saanich. These pump stations use Flygt controllers to control the pumps and to interface to the CRD’s SCADA system (SCADApack RTU).

Other municipalities:
City of Abbotsford: MPC with partner Glentel designed and built the upgrade to the SCADA system over a 2 year period. This included the Citect HMI, Scadapack RTUs, Transnet radios and a hi-speed radio backbone. Complete turnkey.

City of Regina: Designed and built the control system for a landfill flare system. Our design incorporated the first automatic relight flare controls.

District of Ucluelet: In 2009 MPC was awarded the design and build of a new SCADA system and control system upgrades for the District of Ucluelet’s water and wastewater utilities. MPC had previously designed and built two kiosk/control systems for sewage duplex pump stations using ScadaPack RTUs.

Cowichan Valley Regional District: MPC has installed the first portion of a SCADA system for the CVRD using ClearScada software. The District plans to implement a region wide SCADA system for their 40 water and wastewater stations.  MPC has designed and built four stations which include a water chlorination station, septic field pump station and two duplex sewage stations.

Town of Sidney: MPC designed and built pump station control systems for the Town of Sidney. All of these control systems are connected to the CRD’s SCADA system.

District of Central Saanich: MPC has upgraded and converted 5 pump stations for Central Saanich to date. They plan to upgrade all their pump stations. MPC also designed and built a new kiosk/control panel for the Cultra St. pump station.

Projects completed for BC Hydro
Turnkey project; designed and built 6 oil pressure monitoring systems for a 230kVolt transmission line. This system is interfaced to BC Hydro’s SCADA system.

John Hart GS – two alarm control panels

Projects for Ministry of Transportation (Burnaby)
Built 30 control panels for the MoT in Burnaby. These control panels are used to control traffic intersections throughout the province of BC.

Other BC projects
Supplied engineering services to SNC-Lavalin in Vancouver. MPC supplied personnel who spent 12 months in SNC-Lavalin’s Vancouver office providing detailed engineering design of the security system for the Diavik Diamond Mine project.

MPC supplied project management and engineering services for Eurocan Pulp and Paper in Kitimat. MPC had personnel on site for 9 months working on various control system and fire alarm system projects.

MPC provides Vancouver Island Brewery with engineering, troubleshooting and maintenance of their instrumentation and control systems on an as needed basis.

International Projects
MPC has also completed projects in China, Korea, Colombia, Greece and several projects in the USA.

Korea: Designed and commissioned the instrumentation and control system for a TNT plant with triple redundancy using a Yokogawa DCS.

China and Greece: Supplied instrumentation and control system engineering design for two polyformaldehyde chemical plants for Science International.

Colombia: Designed and commissioned the instrumentation and DCS for a chlor-alkali chemical plant in Cali Colombia.

Portland, Oregon: Assisted in engineering the SCADA and control system upgrade and expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Portland.

Indianapolis, Indiana: Designed the instrumentation and control system upgrade of a natural gas liquefaction plant for the Indiana Utilities. This utilized the Delta V DCS and Foundation Fieldbus.
