Recent and Current Projects

Capital Regional District (CRD)

  • Designed and built a system to detect earthquakes and shutdown (close) a control valve to prevent the draining of the reservoir. The system is connected to the SCADA system for alarming and recording of data. Complete turnkey project.
  • Designed and built a Chlorine Shutdown System for the chlorination system at the Japan Gulch Treatment Plant. If a chlorine leak is detected the system will close valves on the chlorine containers. The shutdown system is controlled through the SCADA system for alarming and recording purposes.
  • Designed and built two water pumpstations with Moscad RTU’s, magnetic flowmeters, pressure transmitters, gensets, MCC’s, and MDS radios.

BC Hydro

  • Built 2 control panels for the upgrade work at the John Hart Generating Station.
  • Designed and built 6 Oil pressure monitoring systems. These systems monitor and alarm the oil pressure in the 230kVolt transmission lines that run through the GVRD and the lower mainland area. This system is interfaced to the BC Hydro SCADA system.

Regional District of Nanaimo

  • Designed and built a PLC based control system for the Landfill run by the Regional District of Nanaimo. This system controlled the collection of gas from the landfill through a blower that pushed the gas to a flare where the gas is burned. The system has an analyzer that measures the % of oxygen and CO. It collects data and sends it via an auto dialer that allows the District to record the data over a phone line.
  • Built a relay panel for dewatering system and built a pumpstation kiosk.
  • Designed and built a pump station kiosk with an Allen-Bradley PLC, HMI and ultrasonic level transmitter.
  • Designed and built an Allen-Bradley PLC-based control system with anubar flowmeter, oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzers.

City of Colwood

  • Maintain a Flygt SCADA system that monitors and collects data from 5 sewage pump stations. It uses spread spectrum radio frequency to send the data to a central computer that records the data and sends alarms to pagers of the workers to let them know if there is a problem with one of the pumpstations. We maintain the SCADA system for Colwood and presently we are adding two more pumpstations to the system.

Cowichan Valley Regional District

  • Installed a Flygt SCADA system for the Cowichan Bay pumpstation.
  • Designed and built pumpstation control systems.
  • Design and build a control system for a water chlorination treatment system. SCADAPack RTU’s, Maple HMI’s were used in this installation.

Ministry of Transportation (Burnaby)

  • Built 30 control panels for MOT in Burnaby. These control panels are used to control traffic intersections throughout the province of BC.

Department of National Defence-CFB Esquimalt:

  • Built an Allen-Bradley PLC-based control system for an oily wastewater treatment plant upgrade which includes two magnetic flowmeters, three vortex meters and five ultrasonic level transmitters.

City of Nanaimo:

  • Built a reservoir chlorination control system including instrumentation.

City of Abbotsford:

  • Designed, built and integrated into the SCADA system a SCADA system upgrade. This upgrade includes water, wastewater, drainage, irrigation and other City facilities. The system included Citect SCADA software, 6 SCADAPack RTUs, two SCADAPack front end servers, three road sensors, a high-speed radio backbone with IP addressable MDS radios.

Pope & Talbot - Harmac (pulp and paper mill):

  • Built control panels for DCS Delta-V systems and operator stations.

Triton Logging:

  • Built controls for their underwater logging operations. The controls are mounted on the barge that controls the underwater logging machine connected by a tether.

Filterboxx (skid mounted water and wastewater systems):

  • Designed and built their control systems including instrumentation, installation and commissioning and general electrical requirements.

PR Aquatech (Aquaculture):

  • Design and build control systems including instrumentation for fish farms.

Mequipco:

  • Designed and built PLC-based control systems with VFDs for water and wastewater systems.

Town of Sidney:

  • Designed and built pumpstation control systems. These control systems are connected to CRD SCADA system and use FMC 400 controllers and ultrasonic level transmitters.

District of Central Saanich:

  • Upgraded and converted several pump station control systems for Central Saanich to date. Integrated FMC 400 controllers into CRD’s SCADAPack-based SCADA system.

District of Ucluelet:

  • Designed and built pumpstation control systems. SCADAPack based RTU/controllers with Maple HMI and ultrasonic level transmitters.

District of Saanich:

  • Upgraded a pump station MCC with Benshaw VFD’s.

Oceanside RV park (Central Saanich):

  • Designed and built a pumpstation kiosk

Other projects

  • Supplied engineering services to SNC-Lavalin in Vancouver. MPC supplied personnel who spent 12 months in SNC-Lavalin’s Vancouver office providing detailed engineering of the control system for the Diavik Diamond Mine project.
  • MPC supplied project management and engineering services for Eurocan Pulp and Paper in Kitimat. MPC had personnel on site for 9 months working on various control system projects.
  • MPC has also completed projects in China, Korea, Colombia and many projects in the USA.
